{Party Time} We Are On Safari

It was so much fun working on our latest safari theme. For this version of our safari setting we used more natural colours and styling than our original safari setting. We love how it turned out with simple printables and lots of animal print. It is the perfect setting for any age and gender.

The cake added a splash of pink! And much to the children's amazement the inside of the cake matched the animal print on the outside. It look amazing (and taste wonder too).

The meal was kept simple with hotdogs and chips from our safari coordinated Hot Dog Stand and of course the Milk Shake Stand which everyone young and old seems to love.

The activities included our Dance Party activity which kept everyone busy and active while we were preparing dinner. Dinner was followed by this amazing lion piñata. Everyone always gets excited when it is piñata time and who can blame them when the piñatas are as cool as this!

These amazing animal print cookies were part of the goodie bags along with some safari themed stationary.

{New & Exciting} Football Activities

We are super excited to introduce our latest two activities! We have not one but two football activities joining our growing list of fun activities to keep your birthday guests busy.

First up is our Football Party activity which we have been wanting to introduce for a while now. At last we have managed to get Coach James to join the team so we are able to launch it! This activity does require a relatively large area so for those of you want a football party but don't quite have the space we have adapted our Fun & Games activity for you. You will still be able to get the Fun & Games with traditional party games but now you will also be able to get a football version too.

Join our Football Fun table setting with one of Coach James' new football activities and you have the perfect party for any budding young football star!

{Party Food} Grated Savory Pumpkin Pancakes

These delicious pumpkin pancakes and can be served as a side dish for roast chicken or beef tenderloin or as a vegetarian main course but they are also great on their own as party food for both children and adults.  You can also change them into Potato Pancakes by using the same amount of potato as pumpkin. Make sure you squeeze out all the fluid of the potato before adding to the mix.

You will need:
2 1/2  cups raw pumpkin (butternut is best) coarsely grated
2 small onions coarsely grated
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 tablespoon dried or fresh chives
extra salt and pepper to taste

I find it best to slightly cook the grated seasoned pumpkin in a pan first with a small amount of oil until golden.

While the pumpkin is cooking put the remaining ingredients in a bowl. Then mix the slightly cooked pumpkin with all the other ingredients. Try and do this quickly and do not over mix. Plan to cook immediately or the pumpkin will make the batter watery.
Heat 1 cm oil in a frying pan until it is very hot.
Drop a tablespoon of the batter into the oil and cook until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes, turn and cook for another 2 minutes.
Drain on brown paper or baking paper, not on paper towel, as these will stick to the pancakes.
These can be briefly reheated in a low oven. Serve with a dollop of sour cream or soft goat cheese.

{New & Exciting} Take Home Treats

We decided it was time for some fresh and original take home treats! We have so many Mum's telling us they don't want to send the kids home with loads of candy but didn't know what else to do. We put our thinking caps on and came up with some fun and original ideas.

First off we have Stuffed Balloons. We trailed this at a recent Lego party (coming to the blog soon) and what it was a huge hit! Not only is it a take home treat but it is a great activity to keep the children engaged. The guests get to choose what goes inside their balloons and the colours of the long balloons that also get stuffed in and then the balloon is assembled for them there and then on the spot using the magic balloon stuffing machine.  They are now on our web site under activities.

Next up we have wonderful bright coloured capes. They are great for boys and girls and come in various colours. And lastly some very cute mermaid tails that are attached to elastic so very easy for children to get on and off.

Take a look at our web site for all the details and pricing.

{Party Time} Lego Party

What better theme for a Lego crazy 6 year old. With it's fun, bright colours Lego is a great theme for a 'big kid's' party. We wanted the celebration be original and colourful. It is easy to pick a colour palette when it comes to Lego as there are so many colours to choose from. We went for red and yellow with lots of other bright colours thrown in. The printables were a highlight of the setting as they added in the very recognisable Lego font. The birthday boy helped out by making lots of Lego 'projects' for the cake table.

With the theme being Lego it wasn't too difficult to come up with some activities. The party started with the children watching an episode of one the Lego TV shows. As the guests arrived there were given a bag of popcorn and shown to their seats. It was a great way to start the party as by the end of the 20 minute episode all the children had arrived. This was followed by more fun and games including tower building, pass the parcel, guess the number of Lego pieces in the jar  and then dinner.

I am a great believer in giving a meal for dinner (or lunch) at children's parties as it is less fussy and creates far less waste. The children had Hot Dogs and Chips along with specially packaged tomato sauce. Dessert was home made Lego brick cake and super cute marshmallow pops.

Following dinner and cake and to end the party on a high note we did the pinata which is always a hit. The pinata was a giant red Lego block.

Take home treats were a real treat! We introduced our new Stuffed Balloon party favours. What a hit they were. See our post later in the week to get the low down on them. The children got to take home a stuffed balloon and a divine Lego cookie.

{Party Food} Sausage Rolls with Quick Home Made Tomato Sauce

Here are some delicious Sausage Rolls from Daniel at Mega Bite Catering. They are not difficult to make but if you want the super easy option you can always just order them from Mega Bite! They are always popular at parties (both kids and adults). You can make them a day in advance and then heat them up when it is party time.

Sausage Rolls

You will need:
300g beef mince
200g sausage meat
1 small brown onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled, grated

1 egg, lightly beaten
½ cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons tomato sauce

1 tablespoon flat-leaf parsley leaves, chopped
1/2 teaspoon dried mixed herbs or dried chives
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 Pkt frozen puff pastry sheets, partially thawed

1 tablespoon milk
Quick Homemade
tomato sauce (see recipe below), to serve

Preheat oven to 220°C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

Combine mince, sausage meat, onion, tomato sauce, bread crumbs, carrot, egg, parsley, dried herbs and pepper in a large bowl. Mix until well combined.
Take one sheet of pastry and shape the mince mixture into a sausage and place along one long edge of pastry, do not over fill or your sausage roll will not close. Roll up pastry to enclose mince mixture. Cut roll into 4 or more pieces. Place, seam side down, on prepared tray. Repeat with remaining mince mixture and pastry on prepared tray. Repeat with remaining mince mixture and pastry.

Brush sausage roll tops with milk. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and puffed. Allow to cool on tray for 5 minutes.

Serve hot with tomato sauce. You can always make in advance and then reheat for your party.

Quick Homemade Tomato Sauce

You will need:
2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced (or more, to your taste)
1 can chopped tomatoes, (canned)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons sugar (or less, to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon mixed spice
2 teaspoons mixed Italian herbs, dried
1 teaspoon Fresh basil

Heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions; you could also use shallots if you had them. Cook until soft, a few minutes. Add garlic and saute for about a minute.

Add tomatoes, tomato paste, mixed spice, sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to the point where the sauce still simmers. Add dried herbs. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. (While it’s simmering, you can smash the sauce up a bit with a hand held wizz, to break up some of the tomatoes--depends on how chunky you like your sauce.) If using fresh basil, add now.
